An agency owner told me his client almost fired him over an update.
Not because the numbers were bad.
Because the update sounded like nobody actually cared.
It was short. It was late. It sounded like it was written by ChatGPT on a bad day.
The client thought, "who even sent this?"
Here's a wild idea...
The person who sends client updates should be the person who OWNS that client.
Not the boss.
The boss has 47 fires to put out.
Not the assistant. Not "whoever's free right now."
The client deserves better than musical chairs.
They deserve an owner.
Someone who knows their business, their goals, and why they get twitchy about their cost per lead.
When someone owns a client, something clicks in their brain.
Pride shows up. And pride is sneaky…
It makes people double-check their work.
It makes people care if the update actually makes sense.
It makes people want that client to win, not just get "handled."
That's the secret sauce most agencies miss.
They think good service comes from fancy templates or shiny dashboards.
Nope.
Good service comes from someone who feels like it's THEIR job to make this client happy.
But don't panic. This doesn't mean the owner has to do everything alone.
A VA can gather the numbers.
A VA can pull the screenshots.
A VA can build the first draft.
But the owner reviews it, and clicks send.
Because clients can smell the difference between "someone typed this" and "someone who actually cares typed this."
Now here's the real question.
Do you even know who owns each of your clients right now?
If you paused and got a little nervous... that's your answer.
Fix that first.
Assign owners.
Make it official.
Write it down somewhere everyone can see.
Because once every client has one clear person who's proud to have their name attached, your service level goes up without you touching anything else.
It's one of those boring fixes that quietly makes everything better.
