I tried to break his company

One of my clients left for two and a half weeks.

Not a long weekend. Not "I'll check Slack from the beach."

He was actually gone.

Before the trip we had been installing people and systems on purpose.

Roles.
Hand-offs.
A senior hire who could own the hard clients.

The trip was the stress test.

Result?
2 small fires that the team handled perfectly well without him.

Clients totally fine.

The new senior hire stepped up.

Nothing romantic failed.
The company did not melt.

And the real takeaway was not "vacation is nice."

It was...
He no longer needs to live inside delivery eight to twelve hours a day.

With that level of confidence, we can focus on…

- sales
- pipeline
- offer design
- hiring math

Now the bottleneck becomes…
"will he use the freed time to build demand?"

That is a better problem.

But most owners I talk to are terrified of the same test…

The one where they disconnect for a while to see what breaks.

So the business never gets a chance to prove it can breathe without them.

They hire, but keep jumping into every Slack thread.

They train the company to need them.

If you cannot leave for two weeks without the walls shaking, you do not have a company yet.

You have a job with invoices.

Build the boring systems until a trip becomes data, not drama.

Install the systems, AI, or people who can own the hard clients.

Then do the hard part...

Use the empty hours for growth, not for refreshing Slack.

1. Have systems
2. Test systems
3. Level up
